Luminoma's CSO to present at Skin Cancer 2024 conference

September 24, 2024

Luminoma's Chief Scientific Officer, Dr Michel Nieuwoudt, will be presenting data at the Skin Cancer 2024 conference being held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from September 11th to the 15th of September.

Michel will be presenting results from the clinical study performed by the University of Auckland of the first LumAssure prototype in an oral presentation entitled "Using Raman spectroscopy for in-clinic skin cancer diagnosis". The classification model developed and tested in the study has since been optimised, demonstrating superior results.

The LumAssure significantly outperformed any of the products that are currently being used in the clinic.

The optimised results showed that while correctly identifying 99% of cancers, the LumAssure recommended avoiding 72% of biopsies that were unnecessary. Avoiding these wasted procedures would save significant cost and time for patients, clinics and insurers whilst helping ensure that cancers aren't missed by a clinician.
